Roots

Thanks to the Poje for showing me this delightful quiz that determines your liguistic character ("Yankee or Dixie?"). Considering where I was raised (see below), and that I've largely lost my Southern accent, I thought I'd score about 50/50...

My record:
Akransas = birth to age four-and-a-half
Florida = four-and-a-half to eight-and-a-half
Illinois = eight-and-a-half to twenty-two
Washington = twenty-two to present

My score:
"83% (Dixie). Did you have any Confederate ancestors?"

And as far as I know, I have only a few true blue Confederate ancestors. The rest ventured down there as post-war carpetbaggers, I believe. How honorable!

So, how'd you fare? What's your linguistic score?

52% Dixie - and hear I thought growing up in Michigan would make me a yankee. I blame this all on my bi-mom who is from Southern INdiana.

41 % Yankee- "Barely" which is really strange because my family has lived in northern Michigan since the 1860s.

Barely a Yankee. What I think is striking is the number of things I say that have a strong SE bias. Hmmm. Maybe I should have been a Southerner. 47% (Yankee). Barely into the Yankee category.

You never answer my calls. And you know as well as I do that we can't have phone sex if you don't pick up the phone....
