Dining Out

edwards.gif

"Hey, Z. Senator John Edwards of North Carolina is lecturing you. He's lecturing you because you and I made a bet. I bet that Senator John Kerry of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts would pick Edwards for his running mate. And you were sure that this man would be the veep nominee. Now you owe me dinner. Here's what I'm thinking."

Sam and Dave are right, Kerry/Vilsack wouldn't have stood a chance, but that doesn't mean Kerry wouldn't have chosen him. Democrats have notoriously picked lousy VP's. Geraldine Ferraro helped Mondale lose because he had to constantly explain her shady financial dealings. Gore picked Lieberman...WHY?!!! If he had picked Edwards maybe Bush would have never been elected. Given the history (bad recent history) I didn't have faith that Kerry would make the right choice.

Even if he had picked someone like Vilsack or Gephardt I don't think it would have spelled instant doom. As someone who hails from Iowa, and had the Governor help me fundraise I can attest to his skill on the stump, and his own compelling story (which is equal to or greater than Edwards). Vilsack was an abused child who was appointed Mayor of Mt Pleasant after a gunman killed the mayor during a council meeting. I think it could play.

In the end, I am glad it is Edwards. Go Kerry/Edwards.

What, did Z really think that Vilsack had the name recognition? It has always been either Edwards or McCain!
